The beauty industry is undergoing a profound transformation as we collectively strive for a more sustainable future. At L’Oréal Groupe, collaboration is not just an option – its the only way to achieve a successful transition to a low-carbon economy. This conviction is especially strong for me in my role as Chief Operations Officer for North America, where my responsibilities span the design of our products, the sourcing of ingredients, their manufacturing and the delivery to our customers. I see firsthand how essential it is to embed sustainability in every decision, at every step of the value chain, and this ambition can only be realized through strong partnerships within our ecosystem of diverse stakeholders.
Our approach, however, must go beyond reducing our environmental footprint; it’s about empowering our entire network – from suppliers to industry peers – to drive meaningful change at scale.
Sustainability: An Operational Imperative
For the 22,000 people in our global Operations teams, sustainability is woven into every decision we make, and here are a few ways we are taking action:
Collaboration: The Engine of our Sustainability Strategy
The challenges posed by climate change are too complex for any one company to solve alone. That's why collaboration is at the heart of our "L’Oréal for the Future" program. We actively engage with our suppliers, NGOs, industry peers, and experts to co-create innovative solutions, and accelerate the transition towards a more sustainable beauty industry.
Here's how we're empowering our ecosystem:
A Just and Equitable Transition for All
We think that a sustainable future must be a fair and equitable one. We're committed to supporting a living wage for all workers in our supply chain. Through partnerships, such as the Fair Wage Network, we are piloting programs and providing resources to help our strategic suppliers join us on the journey to ensure a living wage for all by 2030. Our Inclusive Sourcing Program, which directs a proportion of our global purchases to suppliers who employ people from socially and economically disadvantaged communities, further reinforces this commitment by promoting social and economic inclusion within our sourcing practices.
Looking Ahead: Partnership for a Shared Responsibility
Ultimately, we firmly believe that our journey towards a more sustainable future is one we must make together. We are deeply interconnected with our suppliers, partners, and industry peers, and our collective success hinges on working collaboratively. By empowering our ecosystem, sharing knowledge, and constantly seeking innovative solutions, we can amplify our impact and create a beauty industry that thrives within planetary boundaries. I hope that Climate Week NYC 2024 inspires us to continue unleashing the potential of this interconnectedness at scale. It is time.
L'Oréal Groupe is proud to once again sponsor Climate Week NYC, an event that embodies the spirit of collaboration and urgent action that is essential to addressing the climate crisis.
